I recently noticed that the Wikipedia page about Charles Wells contains a comment that he went to the United States and died in Sacramento in 1914.
This is plainly incorrect, and was possibly a sensational claim made by the local newspaper – the Sacramento Union. Wells died in London in 1922 and his death was reported in several British newspapers at the time. Wikipedia is correct in stating that he was buried in North Sheen Cemetery – not far from the National Archives where I spent many hours researching his story for my book.
